The Lois and Roger Kennedy Studio/Residence #3, 1970, Roger Kennedy design with Bernard Zimmerman FAIA. It is easy to understand why the genius of Roger Kennedy's work in residential architecture is not well known; he only designed three houses for himself and his wife Lois. Each is iconic, & adds important new vocabularies to the language of modernist design, but they are secluded in private hillside enclaves with such careful siting in nature that they become invisible in plain sight to the general public. House #3 is Kennedy's most daring. Here he encloses his dynamic open plan live/work spaces within a precise solid brick shell dramatically cantilevered into the panoramic view. Approached down a private drive within a lush hillside garden, the residence incorporates loft like living space with one bedroom, one bath, an office, & studio with additional kitchenette, bath and laundry. As with house #2, there is a generous store room accessed outside beneath the living quarters.
